Il centro storico di Alghero è uno dei più interessanti della Sardegna: risalente intorno al 1300, è caratterizzato dalle imponenti fortificazioni, dai palazzi storici, dalle chiese, che, oltre il dialetto e le tradizioni, sono la testimonianza delle origini catalane della città. La visita del centro storico può avere inizio dal porto, dominato dal Bastione della Maddalena e dalla omonima torre attraverso il quale passando dalla Porta a Mare si può accedere alla Piazza Civica. I dintorni di Alghero offrono tantissimi altri luoghi di interesse archeologico e naturalistico. Uscendo per esempio dalla cittadina e dirigendosi verso nord, superato il Lido di San Giovanni, costeggiando la Spiaggia di Maria Pia, si arriva al borgo di Fertilia. Proseguendo verso nord si giunge alla Spiaggia delle Bombarde e la Cala del Lazzaretto, dominata dall'omonima torre. Le Grotte di Nettuno ed il Nuraghe Palmavera, sono senza dubbio due tappe obbligatorie per chi sceglie Alghero come meta turistica. Oltre il nuraghe di Palmavera si arriva all'insenatura di Porto Conte, il Portus Ninpharum, porto delle Ninfee, detto così per la sua bellezza. È l'unico porto naturale della Sardegna. Le Grotte di Nettuno, possono essere raggiunte in barca passando da Capo Galera e Punta Giglio per poi arrivare a Capo Caccia, famoso per le sue spettacolari pareti rocciose. Qui, in uno dei più bei panorami della Sardegna si trova la Escala del Cabirol che con i suoi 656 scalini collega l'ingresso delle Grotte di Nettuno con il piazzale del promontorio di Capo Caccia. |
