Pochi chilometri separano Tortolì da Arbatax, piccolo borgo di pescatori dotato di un fascino particolare grazie alle sue scogliere a picco sul mare: cala Moresca, piccola insenatura rocciosa che si affaccia su un mare dal colore verde smeraldo, le Rocce Rosse dal particolare colore dato dalla presenza del porfido e rese particolarmente affascinanti dal sole in alcuni momenti della giornata, nel cui anfiteatro naturale si svolge ogni anno la rassegna "Rocce Rosse & Blues", il piccolo porto dei pescatori su cui si affaccia la stazione ferroviaria, punto di partenza del Trenino verde. Arbatax sorge ai piedi di un promontorio sulla cui cima domina il Faro di Capo Bellavista; poco prima una piazzola invita alla sosta in un punto in cui la vista può spaziare dal litorale di Arbatax sino alle propaggini di Capo Monte Santo volando con lo sguardo sopra l'Isolotto d'Ogliastra.Al centro di Arbatax domina incontrastata la Torre di San Michele, edificata presumibilmente nel '500 con lo scopo di proteggere la costa dalle invasioni moresche.
Allo stesso scopo tra il XVI e il XVII secolo fu edificata sul promontorio che sovrasta la baia di porto Frailis un'altra torre: è la Torre di San Gemiliano.Questa posizione che un tempo permetteva agli spagnoli di tenere sotto controllo un ampio tratto di costa è oggi uno tra i punti più panoramici da cui è possibile ammirare il mare di un azzurro intenso che lambisce le spiagge di San Gemiliano, Sos Flores, Orrì sino ai faraglioni di porfido rosso di Cea.
A circa trecento metri dalla torre di San Gemiliano, sul versante opposto del promontorio si erge l'omonima chiesetta, una delle caratteristiche chiesette campestri che costellano il territorio di Tortolì.Un'antica leggenda racconta che dal cannone che si trovava un tempo nelle vicinanze della Torre di San Gemiliano sarebbero partiti tre colpi in tre direzioni diverse. In ognuno di questi punti fu edificata una chiesetta campestre: la chiesa di San Gemiliano, la chiesa di San Lussorio e la chiesa di SS. Salvatore.Queste tre chiese sono al centro di alcune tra le sagre più sentite a Tortolì e festeggiate secondo tradizione.
