Lungo il tragitto da Douz a Gabes, potreste decidere di deviare verso l'oasi di Kebili o le case berbere di Matmata. La prima è molto simile a Douz, mentre le seconde, benché siano segnalate in tutti gli itinerari, non vi offrirebbero alcuna emozione degna di essere vissuta, ma vi procurerebbero solo sgradevoli sensazioni di sporcizia e miseria. Gabes è la prima delle oasi marine, e si offre tramite una spettacolare vegetazione, visitabile, a pagamento, attraverso una lunga e piacevole passeggiata in calesse. Se non siete mai stati a Disneyland, o avete letto il nostro itinerario, avrete la possibilità di vivere, questa volta realmente, la sensazione di essere immersi nella natura e osservarla da un punto di vista mobile nel suo sviluppo, man mano che ci si avvicina all'acqua. Ora, è arrivato il turno della Tunisia balneare, preferita dai turisti all'aspetto naturalistico e storico. Djerba è la meta. Ma prima di arrivarci, lungo la strada ci si può fermare a Zarzis, un'oasi marittima che recentemente, conoscendo un ragguardevole sviluppo, grazie alla vastità delle spiagge dove è possibile la pesca subacquea e al litorale pittoresco è cresciuta turisticamente. L'agglomerato urbano di quella che era l'antica Gergis romana, verdissimo e pittoresco, si colora il venerdì durante il mercato e ospita la principale squadra di calcio del campionato tunisino. Una passeggiata lungo le stradine dell'oasi sarà animata dalla presenza dei locali che portano un insolito sombrero di paglia. La ricchezza cromatica della vegetazione di Zarzis risiede anche nella presenza coloratissima dei melograni. Ovunque, ma soprattutto nei Jardins la loro presenza piace moltissimo ai turisti.

With the nearby Jerba, there is little interest from a tourist's point of view for visiting Zarzis. But the town was very popular among French military on leave during the time of the protectorate. Today the city is not very much more than most other towns in Tunisia, but the beaches are quite good. One day visitors should try to get to Zarzis on Mondays or Fridays when the market gives the town new life.There is a touristic zone a few kilometres north of town, but the atmosphere here should be a prove to Tunisian developers that the entire coast can not be tuned into tourism. Zarzis has a very good selection of hotels in both budget and middle sections – where value for money is good even in summer (Zarzis' climate allows tourism all year round). There are 2 zones of hotels, the ones in town centre, and the ones in the touristic zone along the beach. The best hotels in Zarzis are good 3 star places, which offer comfort but not really luxury. No problems finding a place to eat for the evening. Zarzis has both cheap and more up-market places. It is very easy to arrive in Zarzis, or leave. The bus station and the station for shared taxis are located next to one another, and not too far from the port.
