L'Ungheria copre una superficie di 93.000 km2 con una popolazione di 10 milioni d'abitanti. La capitale è Budapest con 2 milioni d'abitanti. Il 90% della popolazione è ungherese. Le più importanti minoranze sono i Rom, tedeschi, slovacchi e rumeni.
La lingua ufficiale è l'Ungherese, ma molti parlano inglese e/o tedesco. La maggior parte degli abitanti è cattolica, 25% sono riformati, meno di 10% sono protestanti e 5% appartengono ad altre religioni. Lo stato ungherese è una democrazia parlamentare - Ferenc Màdl è il presidente.
L'Ungheria non fa ancora parte dell'Unione Europea, ma spera di entrarvi nel 2004. Le più importanti industrie sono minerarie, metallurgiche, agrarie ed inoltre di materiali di costruzione, alimentari, tessili, chimiche (perlopiù farmaceutiche) e di veicoli. I partner commerciali maggiori sono la Germania, l'Austria, l'Italia e la Russia. Il paese ha avuto, negli anni scorsi, uno sviluppo economico di oltre il 4% grazie all'aumento dinamico delle esportazioni. L'inverno ungherese è relativamente mite con temperature che raramente scendono al di sotto dello zero. Però in questa stagione molte delle attrazioni turistiche rimangono chiuse. Capodanno e S.Silvestro fanno naturalmente eccezione, poiché Ungheresi e turisti festeggiano sulle strade con sfilate, concerti dal vivo e party.
La primavera è una stagione meravigliosa in Ungheria; anche se marzo può essere ventoso, già in aprile si può godere il tepore del sole. Budapest aspetta gli ospiti durante un festival primaverile di due settimane con varie manifestazioni culturali e musicali.
L'estate ungherese è calda e lunga. In questa stagione molti turisti visitano l'Ungheria ed in particolare Budapest. Ammirano il tradizionale stile di vita della Puszta e le opere artistiche in città storiche come Eger e Sopron.

Hungary's area is 93,000 sq km's with a population of 10 Million. The capital of the country is Budapest with 2 Million inhabitants and the notion of a large city. 90% of the population belongs to the majority. Major minoritities include Romas, Germans, Slovaks and Romanians.
The official language of the country is Hungarian, but lot of Hungarians speak English and/or German. Most of the religious people are Roman Catholic, about a quarter are Reformed (Calvinist) and less than 10% are Evangelical (Lutheran), 5% belonging to other religions. The Hungarian state is a parliamentary democracy with Ferenc Madl as the president of the state.
Hungary is not a member of the European Union, but is hoping to become one by the year 2004. The country's major industries are mining, metallurgy & agriculture, construction materials, processed foods, textiles, chemicals (especially pharmaceuticals) and motor vehicles. Major trading partners are Germany, Austria, Italy and Russia. Economic growth is above 4% for the past years mainly due to the dynamic expansion of exportWinter is relatively mild, with temperatures sometimes below 0 degrees. Tourist sights, however, are often closed and there is not much to visit in these bleak days. New year's eve is an exception. Street parades, live concerts and in-house parties are the places where Hungarian celebrate the coming of the new year.
Spring is glorious in Hungary. March can be a little windy but April is sure to offer some warm sunshine. This is the time of the Budapest Spring Festival, a two-week long cultural and musical event.
The summer in Hungary is warm and long, and tourists are pouring into the country. In addition to the sights of Budapest, most of the tourists take some time to visit the countryside and catch a glance of the traditional Hungarian lifestyle in the Puszta, or amaze themselves with the work of artisan in historical towns like Eger or Sopron.
The autumn is beautiful, nice hikes can be taken in the hills around Budapest. Museums are still open and with the passing of the summer heat, longer walks can be enjoyed during the day in the downtown area. November usually turns rainy but it is counterbalanced by the hype caused by the approaching of the Christmas holidays.
