Creta è per le dimensioni, la quinta isola del Mediterraneo, ma riesce a mettere in scena di continuo un paesaggio senza défaillances, con monti e gole scolpite nella roccia e pendici punteggiate di agrumeti e olivi. Hania è la tipica città veneziana dimenticata nel Mediterraneo, con palazzi i bastioni e arsenali che delimitano lo specchio del porto, aiutati egregiamente dai tipici ristoranti e caffè. Ad Aghia Roumedi,alcuni battelli di pomeriggio, portano i turisti a Hora Sfakion o a Paleochora, dove si trovano spiagge per tutti i gusti, deserte e ciottolate, oppure sabbiose e ombreggiate dagli alberi. Sulla costa sud sono almeno due i luoghi di piacevole soggiorno: Moni Preveli e Aghia Galini. Bellissimi sono i panorami specialmente a Elounda, che guarda l'isola di Sinalonga, cui è collegate da un lungo istmo. In questa regione è obbligatoria l'escursione all'altipiano di Lassithi. A Vai nell'estremo oriente di Creta si trova una spiaggia tropicale, almeno dall'aspetto: la sabbia è orlata da una foresta di cinquemila palme in cui si annida una fauna che è proibito disturbare.Da non perdere il monastero di Toplou una vera e propria fortezza senza però trascurare tutte le isolette sparse intorno alla grande isola; Gramvousa, Gavdo, Gavdopoula,Paximadia, Hrisi.....Inutile sforzarsi di vedere tutto questo in una sola volta: qualcosa rimarrà sempre indietro, e bisognerà ricominciare da capo! Da visitare: spiagge di Matala , di Aghia Pelaghia e di Elafonissi. Da vedere assolutamente: l'isola di chrissie o isola dell'asino dove troverete un pezzo di caraibi...assolutamente fantastica; 45 minuti di motonave(il biglietto si fa a bordo e costa 15 euro) e sarete sull'isola...peccato che poi se decidete di prendervi l'ombrellone con sdraio, vi pelino ben 10 euro.
