La capitale, con quasi 3 milioni di abitanti, e la città piu’ antica del Nuevo Mundo, L'Avana è una città unica e splendida, il cui fascino intrigante porta a volerla conoscere il meglio possibile. È suddivisa in quattro zone principali: Habana Vieja, la parte antica che si sviluppa intorno al porto, e dichiarata dall’Unesco “Patrimonio dell’umanità”. L’ottocentesco Centro Habana, il Vedano: la zona moderna, e la zona residenziale delle Ambasciate. Il giro della città è davvero da fare: si può partire da Plaza de la Catedral, dove si ammirano i palazzi coloniali settecenteschi. Si prosegue poi verso Plaza de Armas, il cuore della vecchia città, dove è da ammirare il Palazzo dei Capitani Generali, il più bello della città. Da non perdere, vicino alla Plaza de la Catedral, la famosa Bodeguita del Medio, posta in una via laterale, uno dei locali più rinomati dell'Avana dove si può bere il famosissimo Mojito. In ultimo prendendo il tunnel della Bahía, che passa sotto il canale d'accesso al porto, a 12 m sotto il livello del mare, si raggiunge il Castillo De Los Tres Reyes Del Morro, la fortezza più grande dell'Avana, ora sede dell'Accademia Militare. Da qui tradizionalmente ogni sera alle 21 viene sparata una cannonata. Oppure potete girovagare senza meta per le strade della città e scoprire le tante meraviglie di questa splendida città. Castillo de la Real Fuerza (Palazzo). Dichiarato Monumento Nazionale, è stato costruito per sostituire la prima fortezza, realizzata per la Regina di Spagna, ed è diventato la fortezza coloniale piú antica d'America, essendo stata inaugurata nel 1577. Museo de la Revolución (Museo) Ospitato nell'antico Palazzo Presidenziale, questo museo espone oggetti di grande significato storico in riferimento alla guerra rivoluzionaria e alla liberazione nazionale. Casa del Conde de San Juan de Jaruco (Palazzo). E' una delle piú importanti costruzioni nei dintorni della Plaza Vieja ed è anche il più importante esempio di architettura del XVIII secolo. Museo Ernest Hemingway (Museo) Dimora dove il romanziere Ernest Hemingway ha vissuto dal 1939 al 1961. In mostra vi sono oggetti personali dello scrittore, libri, documenti e fotografie così come lui li ha lasciati. Havana is built around a harbor in western Cuba, 170km southwest of Key West, Florida. Old (Colonial) Havana sits on the west side of the harbor, spilling west into the lively Vedado hotel and entertainment district. A tunnel links Old Havana to East Havana and its endless high-rise flats. The bulk of Havana's working-class population lives in industrial areas to the south of the town, extending as far as the international airport 25km to the southwest. |
