Pearl of the Isola d'Ischia, kissed by the sun throughout the entire year
Forio d'Ischia is the biggest municipality and main tourist locality of Ischia, on the western side of the island. It extends between two promontories: Punta Caruso and Punta Imperatore; wonderful beaches alternate with flourishing green areas (that is why Ischia is also called "isola verde", green island) that are characterized by typical mediterranean plants (like the broom). However, the real gems of Forio d'Ischia are its beaches from where it is possible to admire breathtaking sunsets. Its most beautiful beaches are the San Francesco bay, La Chiaia, Citara bay and Cava dell'Isola.
Forio, just like the entire Isola d'Ischia, has many thermal-water springs in the bay of Citara, where the thermal park Giardini Poseidon is located, and in the bay of Sorgeto. In Sorgeto, the thermal waters flow directly from the bottom of the sea into natural pools where it is possible to bathe during the entire year thanks to the high temperature of the water.
Forio is also full of monuments and interesting places that are worth visiting: the Church of the Soccorso, between Punta Caruso and Punta Imperatore and dedicated to the Madonna della Neve with a great view; the Torrione on the coast, a defensive sighting tower against the saracenic and turk invasions; the alleys, noble palaces, art galleries of local painters and small shops (souvenir and local products) in the historical centre.
