What to see in Marina di Pulsano

Pulsano is a wonderful apulian town in the province of Taranto, on the Ionian sea, located in a very rich area from a natural, panoramic and historical point of view, characterized by a wide mediterranean-scrub pinewood. Pulsano is a city full of history: its centre was dominated by the Greeks, the roman empire, the French, the Spanish, the Kingdom of Naples, the Kingdom of the two Sicilies and in 1860 the Reign of Italy. According to the historians, it owes its name to the latin phrase "ab insigni abitantium pulsu", meaning "population with a healthy wrist" because, since the time of "Magna Grecia", important arm-wrestling tournaments were organized in this town.

In the picturesque historical centre there are many historical structures that tell this town's story: the Sanctuary of Santa Maria la Nova, where it is possible to admire the chapel dedicated to San Trifone; the Palace of Culture, an eighteenth-century building that hosts many paintings by Giuseppe Bianco; the enchanting Torre dell'Orologio (clock tower) with its botanical garden. The tourists cannot miss a visit to De Falconibus Castle, developed on three levels with five defensive towers (each one with a different base and dimension), and to the Museum of the farming art, with more than 500 prehistoric and medieval findings and some from the Risorgimento.

Marina di Pulsano is surely the gem of Pulsano with its wonderful coast that extends for about 8 km and its suggestive mediterranean-scrub pinewood. In Marina di Pulsano there are some of the most beautiful beaches and cliffs of southern Italy: Luogovivo, La Fontana, Le Canne, Montedarena, Villa Verde, Pezzarossa, Serrone, Lido Silvana with its rocky islet and exclusive residential villas, Bosco Caggioni that hosts the main night clubs and a big water park. Marina di Pulsano is the favourite tourist destination of those who visit Salento for its natural, historical and gastronomic treasures.
