Awarded with a "bandiera blu" and a "bandiera verde"
Menfi is a municipality in the province of Agrigento, located on the southwestern coast of Sicily among the doric temples of Selinunte and the archeological sites of Eraclea Minoa. The territory is crossed by the Belice and Carboj rivers and its coastal area extends for about 10 km. The coastline is characterized by a sandy shore with dunes that cover the hinterland for hundreds of meters. On the same coastline there is the maritime hamlet of Porto Palo, winner of the "bandiera blu" and the "bandiera verde" thanks to the high-quality of its sea and beaches.
Menfi is also known for its rich farming production. 50% of its municipal area is destined to the viticulture: about 60.000 metric tons of grape are cultivated every year and the resulting wines are exported all around the world. The wide olive groves, where the extra-virgin olive oil is produced, also create a wonderful scenery.
