Sapri

Sapri is the last municipality south of the province of Salerno, is part of the territory of Cilento, within the gulf of Policastro, which is considered the heart. The town is known for having obtained several times the Blue Flag award for the quality of its waters, which is why it is one of the destinations bells high tourist accommodation, frequented by Italians and foreigners especially in the summer months.

The city has very ancient origins, already in Greek and Roman times the bay and its hinterland were held in great esteem both in terms of trade and tourism. One of the regulars was Cicero, who called it the little gem of the South Sea. The Roman presence in Sapri is witnessed by numerous finds including a patrician villa of the first century B.C. which was later enlarged in the imperial age and which was the residence of the emperor Massimo Erculio. Sapri was also admired and praised by many travelers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries who appreciated the beauty of the places and the goodness of the local population.
