All there is to do in Ischia in June

It is no coincidence that the month of June is also called "month of the sun" or "month of freedom": the summer season begins, children and teenagers finish the school year, many workers have holidays and, coincidentally, it's the best time of year to stay on the island. Ischia in June is in the right middle between the total tranquility of the months of April and May and the strong frenzy of July and August, thanks to the perfect climate, the popular but not crowded beaches, the Caribbean sea and the unique events that refer to the tradition of Ischia.

8 things to do absolutely in Ischia in June

1. Visit to the Aragonese Castle

The Aragonese Castle rises majestically over the sea with the wonderful Campanian archipelago behind it. Main symbol of Ischia, if you come on holiday in June a visit to one of the most beautiful castles in Europe is a must. Perched on an islet connected to Ischia by a bridge, the Aragonese Castle is also superb inside: large terraces, fabulous gardens, convents and prisons that tell 25 centuries of history. The Castle is open every day from 09:00 to sunset and entry costs just €12.

2. A dip in Citara

We are talking about one of the most beautiful beaches of Ischia, in one of the most suggestive bays: the bay of Citara and the beach of the same name are one of the top destinations for experiencing the sea in Ischia, especially in June when there is no shortage of movement, but without too much chaos. Free beach and various private beaches, beachfront parking and the thermal pools of the Poseidon Gardens, the most beautiful thermal park in Europe.

4. Feast of San Vito in Forio

In mid-June there is a celebration in Ischia: San Vito, the patron saint of Forio, is celebrated, for which a large celebration is organized, highly appreciated by both the islanders and tourists, thus returning to the ranking of the most beautiful patronal celebrations of Ischia. The celebration of the saint through the various and typical religious functions is inevitable, but the festival comes to life right in the center of the town and on the seafront where stalls of all kinds are set up. Entertainment is not lacking thanks to the organized musical performances and the installation of rides dedicated to children and teenagers. The party begins on June 14th and ends on the 17th with a sensational fireworks display. If you come to Ischia in June, the feast of San Vito is definitely an event not to be missed.

5. Aperitif at the Maronti

There is nothing better than enjoying some music while sipping a good drink at Maronti, Ischia's largest and most popular beach. In addition to some appetizers, there is the splendid panorama of Sant'Angelo at sunset at 0 cost.

6. Walk in Sant'Angelo

Nothing is more pleasant than strolling through the narrow streets of the characteristic and peaceful Sant'Angelo, an ancient fishing village. Also called "little Capri", Sant'Angelo is truly a small "chic" paradise full of shops and open-air cafes, some located right in front of the Tower, the islet symbol of the village.

7. Visit to the Church of San Ciro

Among the panoramic hairpin bends of Serrara Fontana, a mountainous village of Ischia, stands a very particular little church made of green tuff, evidence of the art of stone working by the farmers of Ischia in the past. It is worth visiting and admiring the immense panorama of the south coast seen from above from the belvedere opposite.

8. Broom Festival

For over 20 years, the first Sunday of June in Ischia has been dedicated to the folkloristic "Festa della Ginestra": the anniversary begins in Buonopane, a hamlet of Barano d'Ischia, and consists of an excursion (in the green and yellow of the ginestre) which ends in Piano San Paolo, an ancient fossil beach, where the real party begins with lots of typical food, traditional music and dances by the folk group 'Ndrezzata. Ischia's Ginestra festival is definitely an event not to be missed.
