Barano d'Ischia is a municipality of the Isola d'Ischia located on a hill (200 meters). It offers a great variety of landscapes: from the heights of the Buonopane fraction, the excursions on mount Vezzi and Trippodi, the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Montevergine, the sides of the former crater "la scarrupata" to the beach of Maronti.
A suggestive view can be appreciated from the terrace of the Church of San Rocco, in the namesake square in the centre of Barano d'Ischia. From here, it is possible to admire the entire coastline that goes from San Pancrazio to Sant'Angelo or the hill covered in plantations, orchards and vineyards.
The volcanic origin of the hill where Barano d'Ischia is located is the reason why this locality has an abundant amount of thermal springs. The most important ones are Olmitello, near the Maronti beach, and Nitrodi, Buonopane. Nitrodi owes its name to the mythical nymphs that protected this area.
