Decorated with the mediterranean scrub and an expanse of scented Aleppo's pines, Castellaneta Marina is one of the most beautiful beach localities on the western part of the Gulf of Taranto, with crystal-clear and shallow water. The coastline is characterized by long and white-sand beaches (some of them are free while the other are private beach clubs equipped with every comfort) but also by amusement parks, night clubs, shopping centres, golf courses, stables, hotels and restaurants. Its beaches are awarded with a "bandiera blu".

Places to Know and Visit
The Church of Santa Maria del Pesco, right on the edge of the canyon, has a privileged position on the beautiful landscape of the Castellaneta canyon. The little rocky church is also known as Santa Maria della Luce for the famous namesake painting in the crypt, or as Vergine Assunta. Located near a preexisting underground complex, today the church is dedicated to the Vergine Assunta. Inside, there is the thirteenth-century painting of the "Madonna col Bambino".

The Cathedral and the episcopal Palace. The Cathedral rises on the top of Castellaneta, on the edge of the canyon, and is dedicated to the Vergine Assunta, with a fourteenth-century bell tower beside the episcopal Palace. It was built on the remains of the ancient church of San Nicola (1000), and then modified in the 1400 with a romanic/apulian style. The restoration of the 1700 transformed all the friezes and decorations into baroque elements. The episcopal Palace, located near the cathedral, hosts the diocesan museum with the precious polyptych by Gerolamo da Santacroce.

The Church of the Transito di San Giuseppe was built in the 1729 by Angelo and Vito Oronzo Gentile Sarapo. At the centre of the gate there is the emblem of the Sarapo family. The church, in baroque style, rises in Via Carrare. Inside, there are three eighteenth-century paintings, one of which is dated back to the 1744 and is signed by Vincenzo Fato.

The wide white-sand beaches, decorated by the scented bushes and shaded pinewoods of the mediterranean scrub, are the best part of the Castellaneta's marine, awarded with a "bandiera blu". Its crystal-clear and shallow waters are suitable for families. Riva dei Tessali, with the golf course, is an inlet surrounded by a wood of conifers, with shallow and crystal-clear water.
