Ischia Porto is the main centre of the island and includes the fractions of Campagnano, San Michele and Sant'Antonio but is separated from the nearby Ischia Ponte, which is the area that surrounds the Aragonese Castle. Its harbour was built in the 1854 and was wanted by Ferdinando II di Borbone together with the Chiesa di Santa Maria di Portosalvo, adjacent to the harbour, that hosted the sailors.
Moving towards the centre, in Piazza Antica Reggia, the tourists will find two important thermal centres: the Antiche Terme Comunali, current town hall and exhibition room, and the Stabilimento Termale Militare. From Piazza Antica Reggia the main roads of Ischia Porto (full of bars, shops and restaurants) start. Following the linear Via Alfredo de Luca the tourists will reach Ischia Ponte, ancient hamlet with a rich history and culture testified by the Aragonese Castle and the entire surrounding area.
The sea surrounds the entire municipality. Following narrow and winding streets it is possible to reach the beaches of San Pietro and Sant'Antonio. In proximity of the bridge there is the beach of La Mandra, a stretch of dark sand also known as the fishermen beach. Via Nuova Cartaromana leads to the namesake beach that has a wonderful panoramic view on the Sant'Anna rocks and the castle.SEE THE MAP
