Mandatoriccio is a beach locality on the high ionian coast in the province of Cosenza, 600 meters on the sea level, and has 3.500 inhabitants that triple during the summer because of the numerous tourists. The typical mediterranean climate allows the tourists to visit Mandatoriccio during the summer, for its wonderful sea, but also during the winter, especially during the Christmas season, with the tasting of typical local products and the nativity scene staged in the Curch of San Pietro and San Paolo.
The origins of the hamlet are dated back to the end of 1500 when the D'Altavilla Mandatoricco princes took control of the hill where the historical centre is still located today. The village developed until 1700 and its population grew because of all the people that tried to run away from the arabian pirates or wanted to move from the mountains to flat areas. Beside its historical centre, many other places can be visited in Mandatoriccio: the Castle, built during the fifteenth century in the highest area of the country; the Church of San Pietro and San Paolo, with a precious and embellished wooden ceiling; the Castello dell'Arso, built around 1000. The protector of Mandatoriccio is San Francesco di Paola, celebrated on the 12th May.SEE THE MAP
