Nova Siri, in the province of Matera, Basilicata, is a municipality on the ionian coast divided into Nova Siri Paese (town) and Nova Siri Marina (marine). There are a coastal area, a hilly area and a low-mountain area. The first one extends for 3 km on the Ionian sea, in particular on the Gulf of Taranto with sandy shores and natural dunes surrounded by pines, eucalyptuses, rosemary and oleander trees. There are also rivers and canals like the stream of Toccacielo, which is a wildlife reserve of the WWF where the grey heron, the gabbianella and many other birds live. The hilly area is characterized by many agricultural lands full of olive trees, orange trees and plum trees but also by numerous areas full of wild plants and wild pear trees, oaks, olive trees, wild fennel, wild chicory, dandelions, wild cardoon, wild artichoke and calendula.
