Porto Cervo is the prestigious centre of Costa Smeralda, on the northeastern coast of Sardinia. Eccentric and trendy, Porto Cervo was a fishermen village transformed into a luxurious tourist destination in the 1960s by the prince Karim Aga Khan IV, who fell in love with this beautiful coastline of Gallura. Sea, splendor, VIPs, yachts and nightlife are the main features of Porto Cervo, favourite destination of the international jet set. Its inhabited centre developes around the panoramic terrace of the famous Piazzetta and the Church of Stella Maris, with its many alleys and streets full of boutiques, jewelry stores and trendy restaurants.
Porto Cervo can be reached from the airport of Olbia, 30 km far, or from the harbour of Olbia where many ferries from Genova and Civitavecchia land. The modern harbour of Porto Cervo is one of the best of the mediterranean sea, with 700 landings, and hosts the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda that organizes the most engaging regattas. During the summer, it is possible to admire many luxurious yachts belonging to national and international celebrities. The evenings in Porto Cervo are characterized by the presence of famous people, sports events and parties.
The village developed around a deep natural deer-shaped gulf; its luxurious hotels and villas are located right outside the city centre. The area of the harbour is full of people and fancy clubs that make Porto Cervo a unique place. Its little square overlooking the harbour surely deserves a visit, together with its amazing church of Stella Maris designed in the 1960s by the architect Michele Busiri Vici. The first beach of this area is the Portisco beach, then Arena Bianca, with its white sand. Moving forward, there is the locality of Razza di Iuncu, a combination of many small beaches and inlets that can be easily reached by boat. In proximity of Porto Cervo there are some of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Smeralda: Portisco, Cala Granu, the beach of the Pevero, Cala di Volpe, Cala del Faro, the beach of the Romazzino, the beach of the Principe, many other inlets and beaches and the wonderful Archipelago of La Maddalena.SEE THE MAP
