Sorrento

Sorrento is a coastal locality situated in the namesake peninsula, in front of the bay of Naples. Located on the cliff that separates it from its harbour, Sorrento is famous for its panoramic view on the sea and the Piazza Tasso square, full of coffee bars. The landscape that can be appreciated from Sorrento is unique: sea, mountains, valleys and terracings of citrus groves. Those who choose this locality will be surrounded by nature, sea, culture, thermal therapies, long walks and excursions in the nearby localities: Ischia, Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Naples and Pompei.

The city centre is an intersection of streets and alleys, of "cardi" (narrow streets running from north to south) and "decumani" (wider than the "cardi", running from east to west) on a tuffaceous terrace situated 47 meters on the sea level and characterized by a flourishing vegetation. One of the main attractions of the area is the Piazza Tasso square with its two statues: one represents the protector of the city, Sant'Antonino Abate, celebrated on the 14th of February and on the first sunday of may; the other one represents the famous local poet Torquato Tasso. In the historical centre it is also possible to visit the Duomo, with neo-gothic facade, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi and Villa Silvana, an elegant twentieth-century liberty-style villa from where it is possible to admire the entire gulf.

"Gastronomy" in Sorrento means "art". Among the local specialties there are the "delizia al limone", a pastry created by a local chef that inherited the centuries-old art of the neapolitan pastry-making and the "limoncello", a liqueur known all over the world made with the peels of the renowned IGP lemon of Sorrento.
