Locality
Polignano a Mare is known as "The pearl of the Adriatic sea" and it has been awarded with a "bandiera blu" since 2008 by the Foundation for Environmental Education for its clean beaches, tourist landings, services offered and, of course, the quality of its water. Besides the natural beauties like coasts and water, Polignano is full of cultural monuments and history characterized by the presence of a roman settlement. Polignano shows its beauty throughout the entire year and those who visit this locality will surely fall in love with it and come back again.

Places to know and visit
The marine grottos in Polignano are among the things that everyone should see at least once in their life. They are among the most beautiful grottos in Italy and their beauty can only be understood by experiencing them with your own eyes. The excursion lasts 2 hours.

Another must-see place is the historical centre of Polignano and the remains of its roman settlement, such as the bridge of Via Traiana that crosses Lama Monachile, the deep inlet located north of the historical centre.

The Church of the Matrice Dell'Assunta, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, overlooks the small square Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, heart of the historical centre. It was cathedral until the 1818, when the small diocese of Polignano was aggregated to the Monopoli's one. Inside, many of the works by the sculptor Stefano da Putignano are preserved.

In the district of San Vito, on the coast north of the town and right on the harbour, there is the majestic complex of the Benedettini's abbey.

The Church of Sant'Antonio was built at the end of the sixteenth century in the namesake square. It once hosted the convent of the monks, while today there is the ER and the headquarters of the broadcasting station Radio Incontro. In the church there are three naves with three stone pillars.

The abbey of San Vito, founded by the benedictine monks, has been designed during the tenth century. In the sixteenth century the abbey housed the minor monks of the SS. Apostles and in the 1785 it became property of the Regio Demanio. In the 1866, the State sold the abbey to the La Greca marquises, current owners of the abbey, while the church is property of the Fondo di Edifici di Culto del Ministero degli Interni, that gave the right to the church of Matrice Santa Maria Assunta to celebrate the Mass every sunday.

The Arco Marchesale, also known as Porta Grande, is a series of city walls built in the 1530. In the 1780, it became the only entrance to the city. On the barrel vault of the Arch there is a canvas representing Christ's crucifixion dated back to the end of the 1500, but its author is unknown.

Piazza Aldo Moro (commonly known as "villa") is the main square of the town where many events and country festivals are organized. Built during the first years of the 1900, it underwent many structural renovations. In the 2014, the square was completely restored and renovated.

The Agro Polignanese and its "masserie" (large farms): the Masseria Pellegrini, with a nineteenth century style, has a wide courtyard with a central building from where it is possible to admire the manor and the service areas; the Masseria Bellini, sorrounded by cherry trees, has a suggestive loggia with a balustrade and a drain, downsized during the years, that separates the main facade from the secondary ones; theMasseria  Bellipario, with the small church dedicated to the Madonna Immacolata, is located in the contrada Marinesca; the Masseria Cannone-Baldassarre; the Masseria Chiantera-Comes and many others.
