Capo Colonna is a promontory located on the Ionian coast of Calabria, western boundary of the Gulf of Taranto. It was originally known as Lacinion because of the pillars belonging to the temple dedicated to Hera Lacinia that was situated in this area: this spur overlooking the Ionian sea is characterized by a single pillar that can be seen from the sea and that was used as a reference point for sailing and the definition of boundaries.
