Long Weekend in Georgia: Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Mtskheta and Uplistsikhe

Arrival at Tbilisi International Airport. Meet and greet with transfer to the hotel (on request). Overnight stay in Tbilisi.

After breakfast, we begin our day exploring the Georgian capital Tbilisi, a charming city blending ancient and modern elements. In the morning we visit the Metekhi Church and Narikala Fortress, offering panoramic views over the city.

We continue to the Sulfur Baths, the Sioni Cathedral and the Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in Tbilisi. After lunch, we visit the Georgian National Museum and stroll along Rustaveli Avenue, the city’s main boulevard. Free dinner and overnight in hotel.

After breakfast, departure north along the legendary Georgian Military Highway. Arrival in Stepantsminda (1,750 m), dominated to the west by the snow-capped Mount Kazbegi (5,047 m), where the unmistakable silhouette of the Sameba Church stands out. Off-road ascent by 4x4 minivan to the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 m.

Its isolated position on top of a steep mountain, surrounded by vast natural landscapes, has made it a true symbol of Georgia. Lunch along the route. During the journey, stop at the Ananuri Complex (17th century), an ancient fortress that witnessed numerous battles, and at the Gudauri panoramic viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of the Caucasus Mountains. Return to Tbilisi. Free dinner. Overnight stay in Tbilisi.

After breakfast, departure to Mtskheta, the ancient capital and religious center of Georgia. Here you will visit two important UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Jvari Church, located on a hill with panoramic views over the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, and the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece which, according to tradition, houses Christ’s robe.

Continue to Gori, the birthplace of Stalin, with a short stop at the Stalin Museum, offering insight into his life and role in the country’s history. In the afternoon, proceed to Uplistsikhe, the oldest cave city in Georgia, founded in the 1st millennium BC and located along the Silk Road. The visit reveals its unique rock-hewn architecture and ancient history. Lunch along the way. Return to Tbilisi after the visits.

Free time until transfer to the airport according to flight schedule.
