What see in Puglia

Known as the "heel of the boot", Puglia is an enchanting region, a stretch of land that extends towards the sea; here art, history, culture, tradition and spirituality blend with nature and the beauty of its peaceful landscapes.

Puglia is wet by the Ionian and the Adriatic sea that meet at the far end of the region, in Santa Maria di Leuca. The two seas create beautiful landscapes, each one with peculiar characteristics, like the golden beaches of Torre dell'Orso and Porto Cesario, the indented coasts of Otranto, the crystal-clear waters of the five islands of the Archipelago delle Tremiti: San Domino, San Nicola, Capraia, Cretaccio and Pianosa, a real paradise on earth. The options for the sea lovers are countless and, among the most popular destinations, there are Gallipoli, known as the "Gem of Salento" and Gargano, known as the "Spur of Italy".

Nature lovers cannot miss a visit to the National Park of the Murge, Gargano's Park with the wild Foresta Umbra, the typical salt pans, lakes, Torre Guaceto's marine reserve, the deep valleys of Laterza and the big sinkholes of Altamura that, with their suggestive landscapes, characterize the hinterland of the region. It has very ancient origins with three Unesco's sites (Alberobello, Castel del Monte and the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo) that testify the contribution that this region gave to the international historical/cultural patrimony. Living Puglia means being surrounded by its ancient history, learning its origins visiting cathedrals, museums, archeological sites, castles and little hamlets full of craftsmanship masterpieces.

Local festivals, events and religious/historical commemorations attract millions of tourists from all over the world, curious to discover the traditions of this wonderful land that expresses all its beauty during events like the famous "Notte della Taranta di Melpignano". Every year this festival, characterized by traditional dances like "pizzica" and "tarantella", attracts many people from all over Europe at the end of august to sing and dance under the moonlight. Other important events are Putignano's Carnival, San Nicola's Festival in Bari and the "Disfida di Barletta".
